Loving the Earth

My greatest and most enduring love affair has always been with the earth. I remember, even as a very young child, lying on a blanket beneath a tree, amazed and entranced by the beauty of its leaves and branches, and by the love I felt for that particular tree. There are so many places I love, and so many places—and creatures—that I feel love me back.

I celebrate my wild place on this feral earth, one creature among many. The earth gives me my body and sustains me with air, water, food, and a home to live in. She gives me my instincts, my biological life, and my cyclical nature.

Loving the heart of nature is effortless. Her beauty surrounds and fulfils me; she takes my breath away. She is my most natural heart’s love—simple, unguarded, and pure.

"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." Vincent van Gogh

I do not take her mountains or sacred groves for granted. I honour and appreciate her oaks, beeches, and willows. During this Tuesday evening gathering, we will have an opportunity to express our love and gratitude for nature, standing alongside her as our most profound ally.
